A grain of sand in the "Ciutat Vella"

This year, ALBIUM has carried out a charitable action with a very needy group in our area.

After considering several options within the team, the name AGAPEMAS came up , and after seeing the activities they carry out, we opted for this NGO.

AGAPEMAS is a national organization, present in Barcelona and other parts of the country.

It works for people at risk of social exclusion and, in a practical way, for homeless groups, asylum seekers, refugees, and victims of sexual exploitation.

Part of the collaboration has consisted of collecting warm clothing, spreading the word about AGAPEMAS' activities in our Barcelona area (Ciutat Vella).

By sharing their work with our clients, family, friends, and local businesses, we are proud of the willingness and positive attitude toward this initiative, shown by all organizations—local, personal, and corporate—as well as our clients, whether verbally or by allowing us to leave flyers and/or posters. Thank you for allowing us to carry out this activity. We are also spreading the campaign and the message through social media (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Tienes Sal ).

For 15 days, our office served as a collection point for all types of warm clothing, sleeping bags, and blankets. We received donations from more than 30 people, both from the neighborhood and from outside the city, collecting a total of 135 kg of clothing.

But... we still had 2 very important tasks that we really wanted to do:

On Friday, December 11, 2020, we delivered it to the AGAPEMAS offices, C/ Príncep de Viana, 6. Metro: L2 Sant Antoni.

We were incredibly surprised and filled with great pride when we saw the joy on their faces of our arrival.

At that moment, we already knew our contribution was only a small grain of sand; right next to us, we had people queuing up asking for help. Realizing the number of people in need and being able to do our part in some way means being part of society and being aware of a reality that exists right next to us.

On Saturday, December 19th, we participated in the outings organized by AGAPEMAS in groups of six volunteers, including our team. In order to meet people who are homeless, we handed out some of the collected warm clothing (mainly sleeping bags and blankets), offered hot broth, and, most importantly, connected with these people.

During two hours of emotional impact, we enter what seems like a foreign world, but it's right there in front of us, and we meet people who share their stories. Afterward, the experience is shared among the group's volunteers, and notes are taken for future follow-up.

Each group was accompanied by an experienced person, with whom we were able to discuss each of the situations we encountered, and who gave us the necessary guidance to be able to offer the best and most comprehensive assistance possible.

This collaboration with AGAPEMAS has allowed us to experience firsthand an organization that works very hard to improve the situation of many anonymous people. It does so from the ground up, without the media spotlight, but with actions that cannot impact a large number of people due to limitations, but which end up leaving a mark on those with whom it works.
